Fab Forty {40 Things My 40th Year}

Fabulousat40Card
Twenty-Ten is the year that I turn Forty.

There was a time in my life that I couldn’t imagine being older than 28.  But 28 has long since come and gone, and come July I will be half-way to 80.  And you know what?  I’m actually looking forward to it.  I’m excited to see what 2010 holds for me,   I’m hoping that 40 IS Fabulous.  After all, they say that 40 is the new 30.

Since I’m turning 40, I’ve decided to make a list of 40 things that I would like do this year.  Some of the things on my list are just for me, some focus on my relationship with others, some are things I want to do around my house, some are even blog related, and some are just for fun.

Without further ado, here is my list of 40 things -

  1. Lose 40 pounds
  2. Bike 400 miles (I don’t own a bike or a gym membership so I don’t yet know how I’m going to accomplish this one)
  3. Get a pedicure
  4. Go have a  facial (I have never done this before and I have no clue how much it would cost.  If it costs a gob of money then my sister will have to come over, wrap my hair in a towel, and put some cucumber slices on my eyes.  I’m sure she wouldn’t mind giving me a facial.)
  5. Read the book of Proverbs 4 times
  6. Go to the dentist (I’m dreading this one, but it needs to be done)
  7. Read 4 books, at least one of them a novel (I know, 4 books in a whole year, I really am an over-achiever.  Seriously, it has been awhile since I’ve read anything more than a blog or a magazine.)
  8. Read the New Testament through 2 times
  9. Go back to school
  10. Eat some Gelato
  11. Go on at least 12 dates with my hubby 2 done
  12. Go on an overnight/out-of-town trip with my husband
  13. Get together with girlfriends once a month just because done in January, February
  14. Be more hospitable – invite people into my home at least 5 times 1 done
  15. Take each of my children out…just them, just because
  16. Giveaway $40 a month done in January, February
  17. Take a meal to someone
  18. Choose new paint colors for the outside of the house (I don’t know when the house will get painted, but it takes me forever to make paint color choices)
  19. Try my hand at a crafty project and blog pictures of the completed project (even if it is super ugly)
  20. Do 7 random acts of kindness 2 done
  21. Go golfing
  22. Go to a show or event of some kind
  23. Plan and go on a summer vacation – on a budget
  24. Do something spontaneous
  25. Take walks by the river at least 5 times – I want to enjoy outside more
  26. Do one nature-y thing I’ve never done before
  27. Plan a surprise
  28. Watch Pride and Prejudice (the long version)
  29. Make bagels from scratch
  30. Plant flowers
  31. Make some decorating decisions – Decorate a room on a budget
  32. Paint 1 piece of furniture
  33. Tackle one organizational project
  34. Spray paint something
  35. Go to IKEA
  36. Have 4 giveaways on my blog 1 done
  37. Have 4 guest posts on my blog
  38. Be a guest poster on another blog did that here
  39. Make a batch of freezer jam
  40. Have family pictures taken
  41. Get a tattoo – I’m thinking big butterfly wings across my back
Oh wait, the list was supposed stop at 40, so I guess I have to scratch that last one.  Did I have you worried Mom?  I’m laughing out loud at myself right now about that whole tattoo thing.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to tattoos, it’s just that I’m not the kind of girl that volunteers to do anything that causes any pain.  That’s exactly why I had to put go to the dentist on my ‘40 things list’.  I have put off going to the dentist because I haven’t wanted to be in any pain.  But I am a list girl and if it is on my list I will be motivated to get it crossed off.  Besides that I already have a tattoo Mom.  Here I go, laughing at myself again.  I’m just kidding!  About the tattoo, not the laughing out loud at myself.

I’ll be keeping you posted on my progress.  Remember, my friend Jill is doing a ‘40 Things List’ too.  And Kim, she is doing a list too, but hers is 100 things in 1000 days.  Let me know if you are going to do a ‘list’ this year too.  I’d love to follow your progress.

I am not a list girl! I can make a list but don't always care whether it gets crossed off or not! notice I am not volunteering to do a list of 50 since I am turning 50 this year!

I have to say that as I was reading down your list, I was thinking "yep, that's a good one, uh huh, yep, I could that".....until #28. when it all screeched to a halt and I thought "ugh!"

Sorry not a pride and prejudice fan....long and boring!!!! I am an action movie kind of girl!

great list and I can't wait to see how you accomplish them all!!

What a fabulous list, Jamie! I can see your heart in many of these... giving to others.

I thought of doing a list on my birthday, but talked myself out of it. ;) It's a great idea... I really need to work on one soon.

i hate pain too. going to the dentist is my least favorite thing to do. i put it off. all.the.time.
have you tried the gas? it helps while there (also kinda nice heehee) but i stress so much just knowing i have to go

How FUN!!!! I love lists (it's probably an addiction of some sort) and your list looks like one that I could have written myself!! 40 is great (I celebrated mine in '08) ... all of these things will keep you good and busy and make the celebrating even better.

I'd LOVE to help with #38!!

Just subscribed via google reader and looking forward to getting to know you a little better and following your success in crossing things off the list.
Happy Monday!!
~ Joy :)

What a great idea! I turn 31 this year--maybe I should make a list. Hmm . . .

I agree--the long P+P is the best!

Go Golfing? I had no idea you were even interested in that. I went ONCE totally overrated. Meaning I sucked at it.

#24 something spontaneous, I can't wait to see what this is.

Great list, it sounds like fun.

I love your list -- it's a great balance of fun, ambition, and service.

I'd love to have you guest post on Graceful (and I'd be more than willing to return the favor!).

I'd love to give you that facial... a friend of mine told me about a great one were you smear butter on your face and then put pickle slices on your eyes... and to top it off you could lay on my couch with my dogs on your lap. Sounds relaxing, huh?
I have my list almost completed, should be up sometime this weekend.

This is great! I did copy some of you and your friend's, hope you don't mind. I did make a post on my blog and hope you will follow my progress as I follow yours. If we start getting behind hopefully we can encourage each other along the way.
