Procrastination

Procrastination is my sin. It brings me naught but sorrow. I know that I should stop it. In fact, I will–tomorrow!” – Pitzer, Gloria
The bigger my to do list, the more I procrastinate.  The week ahead is a busy one for me, both at work and at home.  The list of things that I need to do came to 123,456 as of my last count.  You think I’m kidding?  Maybe I didn’t do a precise count but I think it is an accurate estimate.

And this weekend, I was able to successfully cross 1.5 of those things off my list.  Between now and Friday that leaves me with 123,454.5 things to do.

Wikipedia says this about procrastination:
“For an individual, procrastination may result in stress, a sense of guilt, the loss of personal productivity, the creation of crisis and disapproval from others for not fulfilling one's responsibilities or commitments. These combined feelings can promote further procrastination.”
Is it just me, or do others get caught in this vicious cycle too?  I put things off, I start to feel stressed, and then I feel guilty for not getting stuff done, then I become even less productive because I’m feeling all bad.

This week I need things to be different.  I’ve got some big projects I need to knock out at work and even more projects I need to knock out at home.  And on top of that I have evening commitments 4 of the next 5 evenings.

This week I need to use my time well.  I’ve got to prioritize.  Like for instance, since I have company coming to stay this weekend, I should clear the mound of clean laundry off of the guest bed so my friends will actually have someplace to sleep while they are here.

I’ve got to conclude this post now; I’ve got stuff to do…and I’m going to do it right after I catch up on a few blogs.

oh Jamie, I am so with you. I am the WORST procrastinator. Last week was overwhelming for me, I had so much to do and something every.single.night. It has left me exhausted to face this week...also very busy!!

Let's make a pact to hold each other accountable to get it all done!!!

I tend to be either one who gets things done to the point of exhaustion...or I procrastinate. Not much in-between. I've learned that I'm a list-maker and by doing so I get things done. I don't like a list with items lingering...they MUST be crossed off. However, considering the size of your list :( you may want to make a spreadsheet of it so you can better maintain it :)
Good luck!

I just did that this last weekend. I knew we had company coming over for the last month and I didn't start cleaning until friday the day before they came over. I felt stressed the whole day. Why do we do it to ourselves?

It IS a vicious cycle. The cartoon is painfully accurate. ;)
